Enquire About This PackageThe services listed are examples of what may be included, rather than a checklist for every chimney. An appropriate inspection and assessment will determine the final work specification, including any scaffolding or other access arrangements. Materials are replaced only where needed, and any specialist work is assessed and agreed separately. Repairs aim to address identified defects; they do not guarantee permanent leak prevention.
01 / A LITTLE KNOW-HOW
Repointing means carefully removing deteriorated mortar between bricks and replacing it with mortar suited to the existing brickwork.
It helps look after a chimney’s worn joints. The right repair starts with understanding the condition of your stack.
Splitting, flaking or loose mortar can be a sign the joints are deteriorating.
Deeply recessed joints or missing sections of mortar deserve attention.
Fragments on the roof or ground can be a reason to have your chimney checked.
Have a look from ground level. Please don’t climb onto your roof to check or take photos.

Not sure where to start?
That’s what the first conversation is for.
Repointing involves removing deteriorated mortar from the joints between chimney bricks and replacing it with suitable mortar. It addresses worn joints; the surrounding masonry must also be in a condition that makes repointing appropriate.
Cracked, crumbling or missing mortar, deeply recessed joints and mortar fragments below a chimney can be reasons for an assessment. Observe from ground level and tell us what you have noticed. Photos cannot confirm every defect.
Flaunching is the shaped mortar around the chimney pots at the top of the stack. It is intended to shed rain away from vulnerable details. Cracked or loose flaunching may need a local repair or renewal, depending on its condition.
Cracked or failed flaunching can allow water into vulnerable chimney details, but damp can have several causes. Pointing, pots, flashings and other building defects may also need checking before a suitable repair is agreed.
Damaged chimney pots and their bedding can be assessed for suitable replacement or re-bedding. The choice depends on the existing chimney and its use. Any appliance or specialist flue requirements need advice from an appropriately qualified specialist.
A suitable cowl may help with particular rain or bird-entry concerns, but one design is not right for every chimney. The chimney’s use and any appliance requirements need checking before a cowl or guard is selected. We do not carry out specialist gas or flue work.
Birds can enter some open chimney pots. A suitable bird guard may help prevent entry once the chimney and its use have been assessed. Suspected nesting should be checked before work is planned; an occupied nest must not simply be blocked or disturbed.
Repeated wetting, weather exposure and frost can damage brick faces and mortar. Unsuitable previous repairs or persistent water ingress may also contribute. Individual damaged bricks and localised non-structural defects can be assessed; unstable or structural defects need separate specialist advice.
Some chimney leaks can be addressed through suitable repairs to pointing, flaunching, pots or flashings, depending on the cause and condition of the stack. Repointing alone does not resolve structural defects. We do not advertise structural chimney rebuilding, and no repair is promised to stop a leak before assessment.
Yes. Contact Stacks & Cracks for a free, no-obligation quotation. The proposed scope depends on the chimney’s condition, the work needed and safe access. A quotation or enquiry does not commit you to having work carried out.
Some chimney work requires scaffolding or another suitable access arrangement. The height, position and condition of the chimney and the work proposed all matter. Access requirements are considered when the work is assessed and quoted.
Bridlington is our main service area. We also cover surrounding East Yorkshire areas including Sewerby, Flamborough, Bempton, Carnaby, Burton Agnes and Driffield. Send your postcode or location so we can confirm coverage and access arrangements.
Yes. You can attach up to three JPG, PNG or WebP photographs, up to 2 MB each. Photos help with an initial assessment but may not replace an on-site inspection. Take photos only from a safe position on the ground and avoid including people or private information.
The enquiry starts a conversation about your chimney. Any visit, work specification, access arrangements and date will be agreed with Stacks & Cracks separately.
